Following the successful implementation of the vessel management for wind farm operator Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & CO. KG (OBE) in 2015, Deutsche Offshore Consult (DOC) won the follow-up contract to manage the vessels from 2016 until 2017 used in the offshore wind farm BARD Offshore 1 (BO1).

The contract between OBE and DOC covers an extended area of responsibilities regarding the special-purpose vessels being utilized by OBE, taking into consideration the project-specific requirements of the offshore wind farm BO1.

In addition to the evaluation of offshore logistic concepts and negotiation of charter contracts, deck layout- and collision analysis are an integral part of the comprehensive order placed. DOC also supports e.g. with mobilization and demobilization management as well as with engineering competence for technical challenges if necessary.

BO1, some 100 km northwest of the island Borkum, is the first commercial offshore wind farm in Germany. With 80 wind turbines of 5 megawatt each, this wind farm totals a nominal capacity of 400 megawatt.

Providing the right vessel at the right point in time, with the right equipment in accordance with the operating conditions, is DOCs primary expectation and presents an important determining factor for lowering costs of offshore operations. Following an intensive selection process for the operation & maintenance campaigns in 2016/2017, OBE and DOC chose the vessels of Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) for BO1.

To secure and optimize the vessel performance, DOC experts have the essential competences to utilize the special-purpose vessels to their best use.  Based on years of experience in the fields of shipping, offshore, heavy-lift logistics and port operations by the DOC team, they will coordinate and manage all significant processes necessary for the effective deployment of the special-purpose vessels used by OBE and its subcontractors.

Oliver Spalthoff, Managing Director DOC: "The order by Ocean Breeze Energy is a positive assessment of the work accomplished to date in 2015 by DOC and we take pride in this contract because it represents a vote of confidence in our company. Vessel assessments and concepts are often not considered sufficiently. E.g. transfer systems, material logistics, crane works, crew accommodations and offices represent some of the numerous selection criteria that are particularly important to provide optimum prerequisites for efficient as well as safe working conditions of the Service Teams."
