DOC provides know-how from lifting operations up to three-dimensional models
Bremen/Bremerhaven, February 16th, 2016 – The Deutsche Offshore Consult GmbH (DOC) since end of last year actively supports the energy company Vattenfall in the construction phase of the offshore wind farm Sandbank. The project site has a distance of about 90 kilometres to the coast of the island Sylt in the German North Sea. After finalization the offshore wind farm Sandbank will host 72 Siemens 4 megawatt class wind turbines as well as a transformer platform.
For this Vattenfall project the DOC crew provides their know-how from preparation of studies to the first lifting operations including the optimal use of guide ropes, up to three-dimensional models and storyboards for installation and lifting processes of the installation vessel. Since foundation in 2009 DOC has been involved in the majority of offshore wind projects in the German North- and Baltic Sea as well as in European projects.
By means of three-dimensional models of port, site and installation vessel (MPI ADVENTURE) as well as of the crane and components which are drawn up by DOC, the project process becomes more predictable for the Vattenfall project team and enables them to progress it more efficiently. The lifting operations are simulated in regards to the operating conditions. DOC, a team of offshore experts, engineers, geographers, logisticians and merchants offers its experience in all relevant main works and mission-critical ancillary activities including required action-taking competencies to support the responsible project department of Vattenfall at the best. The wind farm Sandbank is supposed to be grid connected in 2017. The offshore wind farm is not to be seen from coast, neither from mainland nor from the islands.
Vattenfall has been developing this project since 2012 and started with installation of 72 foundations as well as the first subsea cable in 2015. By now all foundations have been successfully installed. The erection phase for the wind turbines will start in summer 2016.

Jörg Engicht, Managing Director of Deutsche Offshore Consult GmbH: “Especially as a company from Bremen/Germany we are pleased to contribute our core competencies to the offshore project Sandbank and proud of the order received by Vattenfall, a leading European energy company with great offshore competence.”
Martin Zappe, Technical Project Manager of Sandbank: “For special tasks like the three-dimensional lifting operation planning and validation we are delighted that our experienced project team is supported by the expertise of DOC. The method of DOC which has already been used in other projects enables us to develop an enhanced assessment of the planning of the turbine installation phase minimizing risks and maximising the quality of work and safety for all parties involved.”
